OUR COMMUNITY
Fairlawn Park, affectionately known by residents and visitors alike as "Esterlawn" began construction in 1985. Many long time Glabar Park residents remember the empty field behind the shopping plaza, that was once hope to become a park.
The builder was Thomas C. Assaly and many of these Executive town-homes were bought by investors, and became rental homes. Over time Assaly and other investors sold the homes privately and the complex became Carleton Condominium Corporation 288. Over the years many families joined the Esterlawn family, attracted by the child friendly playground and proximity to schools, churches and shopping, within walking distance. Our neighbour to the north is Fairlawn Centre. Originally known as Fairlawn Plaza, the retail complex evolved from the "M-Store" and Miracle Mart, to Canadian Tire, and Steinbergs, then Independent Grocer along with Shoppers Drug Mart, a barber shop, hair salon, Brown's Cleaners, the Senator's Restaurant, and Royal Bank. The mall now consists of a few chosen stores such as Staples, Shoppers Drug Mart and LCBO, TD Bank, all of them new to the mall. Although open since 1961, the expansion and creation of newer, larger malls in the city has led to reduced footfalls in this one. However, the facilities and amenities at this one are at par with any of the other mega-malls. Along with your Board, all owners and tenants are proud of our 90 unit private enclave. Through careful planning, regular maintenance and the help of our landscaping volunteers, we are all proud to call Esterlawn our home. A hidden gem in the city of Ottawa |
